Nursery webcam boost for parents

A nursery in Farnworth has become the first in the area to install a webcam - so parents can watch their youngsters throughout the day via the internet.

The new NurseryCam has been fitted in Shining Stars Day Nursery in response to negative reports about the care children receive in early years education.

Clair Beswick, owner of the nursery on Longcauseway, said: "As a parent myself I thought it was important to be able to watch your children while at nursery.

"It is reassuring especially given that nurseries and the childcare profession has received very negative press recently."

She added: "We want parents to know that we have nothing to hide. Parents can also reassure themselves about other things like their child is settling in and not crying when they have gone."

The equipment is waiting to go live and Miss Beswick said that internet security for the nursery's website was tight to prevent unauthorised prying eyes.

All live images are encrypted and protected by multi-layered security measures and are securely accessed only by bona fide parents with the correct passwords.

She said: "Security of the website was very important to us. It is more secure than online banking."

Miss Beswick said that parents were extremely excited at the prospect of being able to watch their children at work and play.

She said: "Parents keep asking when the system will go live, and when they can log on to watch their children."
